Donna died of breast cancer, Age 42, long before the age that breast cancer screening starts at age 50.
Donna was a very special person, our trustee, our inspiration, our friend. Donna joined the group in October 2005. Somehow, despite still undergoing treatment she found the energy & motivation to throw herself into the group with enthusiasm & dedication. She was there from the beginning: choosing our name, our logo, the proud moment when our first leaflets came off the printing press, our launch, our first fundraiser and each & every event we did, she did not miss one. Donna’s contribution included setting up RBF and promoting breast cancer awareness and early detection, especially in women under the screening age. We met people who had self referred to their GP following our health promotion and breast awareness campaigns during 2006 and we may have saved lives, how can you put a measure on that? Despite her own illness, Donna was out there, in the community, campaigning to save others. Donna never dwelled on her illness, she was always cheerful & optimistic, the cancer was a very small (although serious) part of her life and she had so much to live for, she loved her family, her life, her friends, not to mention the horse and the dog!. She had a wicked sense of humour & loved socialising, a game of darts and a little (or sometimes big), tipple. Donna was also dedicated to her family and after meetings she always spoke with pride about her family: Ian, our Laura and our Shannon. We were in no doubt about the love and great, great, pride that she had for them. Her strength, her straight talking, her positive outlook, her courage, her verve and her zest were an inspiration to many others. That inspiration & spirit is the legacy she leaves with us and it will live on in Rhondda Breast Friends. God Bless You Donna, from all at RBF

Jade Louisa Emanuel 9-7-1990 - 29-3-2008 |

Saturday 29th March 2008 we tragically lost our Precious daughter, Jade Louisa Emanuel, who was just 17 years old. Jade was more than a daughter, she was a best friend, cared for everyone more than herself, was a true angel even before she gained her wings! Jade was tragically killed on the A465 alongside her dear friend Rhiannon Davies as they were on their way shopping to Merthyr Tydfil. Life has never been the same since that day and we miss Jade with every second that passes. Jade was buried at Treorchy Cemetery on the 10th April, 2008, donations in lieu of flowers were given to Rhondda Breast Friends. Jade had been studying for her Duke of Edinburgh Award at Treorchy Comprehensive School, as part of this she was to do an over night camp in the Brecon Beacons. Having just lost our dear friend Donna Phillips on the 6th May 2007, Jade had contacted Diane at Rhondda Breast Friends to arrange to do the camp in memory of Donna raising sponsor money. Unfortunately Jade didn't get to carry out her wish. Treorchy Comprehensive donated money to Rhondda Breast Friends in memory of Jade, the proceeds came from the School Ball that Jade was so looking forward too, this Jade also missed. This year on Saturday 28th March on the first anniversary weekend of Jade and Rhiannon's angel day, a sponsored walk was arranged in their memory: 'Walk with the angels' which took place from Co-op Treorchy to the Hendrewen Hotel, Blaenycwm. This walk had been inspired by Jade, in memory of Donna. Jade and Rhiannon's passing devastated and effected so many lives, the walk was intended to keep their dreams and memories alive, turning something negative into something positive, raising money to care for others. All the money raised from the walk will be equally divided between Rhondda Breast Friends and Ygsol Hen Felin. Jade and Rhiannon had both decided on a future caring for others, that was their nature, I'm sure they know how many people's lives have been helped since they have passed and they are delighted with this. Love and Miss you Always our Precious angels x -- J Emanuel |

You left your mark in deeds of kindness. You left some love for all to share. You left a smile for others sadness, Gifts like these are truly rare.
You left the sunlight and the flowers, You left your Mummy Manual to lean upon, You left the world in peace and laughter Gifts for those who follow on.
You left me a mission, a task for me to do- "Let others know, the pain I had to go through. Feeling myself die and my life ebb away, And all the time, I felt I didn't have a say" Miss you loads, God bless you & keep you in the palm of his hand, Mam & Dad |
